Just launch Gionkyo, then which is listening to your sound, recording, and analyzing for visualization. You can give it a glance at anytime or refer to the sound just played.
Gionkyo has two views. One is Pitch View in landscape orientation, and another is Code View in portrait orientation.
1. Pitch View
Pitch view shows subtle pitch movements in realtime. A4 is placed at the center, and +-2 octaves. So the lowest is A2, and A6, the highest.
Home button to the right(A6 -> A4 -> A2)
Home button to the left(A2 -> A4 -> A6)
D5 shown in the bottom left shows the detected sound. It is visualized as the aqua line makes its peak at the spot. And there, an orange ball is floating. It is the most important target to note in this view. It tells the subtle pitch. From -50 cents at the bottom, up to + 50 cents at the top. So both of the two above means the pitch is exact, almost at +-0. The pitch is calculated with A440, which is shown in the bottom. By pressing + or -, you can increase or decrease the reference frequency.
The orange ball is so sensitive that you can *see* your vibrato, tonguing, and stability of long tone. Where does your vibrato begin at? Up to how high? What about your favorite musician?
It tells a lot. But you should not follow the ball when you play. It is important to imagine your sound, play, and listen to it. Use Gionkyo only for your reference. It is following your sound in realtime. So use only when you feel something wrong like your instrument is warmed up. Or analyze soon after you finished your practice. Gionkyo records the last 20 secs for playback. Press play mark, then.
Those balls in a row are placed at every half note, and colored by respective color based on preset key. In the above, it is Bb Major. This is mainly utilized in another view.
2. Code View
Code View shows detected sounds, for example D5 in the cases above, in chronological order. It depends on the device spec, but about for 20 seconds.
Home button at the bottom(Newest on the left, oldest on the right)
Home button at the top(newest on the right, and oldest on the left)
Both in Major and minor, diatonic notes in each key are shown as below:
1 ~ Tonic: Red
2 ~ SubTonic: Brown
3 ~ Mediant: Green(in Major), Yellow(in minor)
4 ~ Subdominant: Blue
5 ~ Dominant: Aqua
6 ~ Submediant: lavender
7 ~ Leading tone: Purple
Thus, this view is good to see composition of a song.
Last but not least, iPod mixing is allowed. You can launch Gionkyo while playing a music on iPod. This allows you to practice with Play Along style music. Also, your favorite music on iPod can be immediately analyzed by Gionkyo because speaker and mic are placed next to each other on iPhone/iPad.
